What Is Trommel Screen And How It Works?
Trommel screen is a cylindrical type of screening equipment with a huge role in solid-waste and mineral processing industries. The word “trommel” means a drum in German language, so the trommel screens are commonly related to the German known durability. Trommel screens have production rates from 20 to over hundreds of yards per hour, depending on the model. From a wide range of different trommel screen models, the operators can easily match their applications with the most suitable trommel screen. A typical trommel screen features a cylindrical drum, as a main component, because the whole screening process takes place there. If there is differences between models, the design of the drum is certainly the biggest difference.

How To Choose The Right Crushing Equipment?
Crushing equipment is an important part of the industries that depend on crushing raw materials. Mining industry is one of those industries, as it requires machines that will regularly and efficiently crush rocks and ores underground for easier operation. Crushing equipment, shortly known as crushers, are known for their flawless crushing of rocks and gravel. Simpler said, the crushers reduce the size of large pieces of material into small pieces, using compressive energy. However, to complete this process successfully, the operators need to choose the right piece of crushing equipment for their specific application, which is a requiring task because of the comprehensive choice. Many operators do not know that the first step of the crushing process is to choose the right crushing equipment. Here are the three most important tips that every operator should know.
Mobile Or Stationary? - The first and maybe the most important factor is to decide whether stationary or mobile crushing equipment. Mobile crushing equipment offer the benefit of allowing the operators to move them closer to the crushing activities, while the stationary crushing equipment have a heavy-duty design for tougher tasks. The biggest and the most obvious advantage of mobile crushing equipment is their mobility, which is needed for the applications that depend on movement around a job site. Also, mobile crushing equipment can be transported from one to another job site just by loading on a trailer, thanks to their lightweight design.
Determine Purposes – Another important factor of finding out the right crushing equipment is to determine purposes and expectations from the crushing equipment. This means that the operators need to specify what type of raw material they will be dealing with and its particle size range. Also, it is suggested to forecast the production rate from the crushing equipment, most frequently in tons per hour. On this way, the operators will have a tighter choice and can make the better decision.
Determine Expected Production Output – As mentioned above, operators should determine their expected production output in advance, in order to find out what type of crushing equipment do they need. Too often, operators get crushing equipment that do not produce the expected production output, reducing their profits significantly. That might be a consequence of either an improper determined production output or wrong crushing equipment for the given application. So, before getting any crushing equipment, they need to approximately estimate their expected tonnage per month or per year and choose the most suitable crushing equipment.

Stability Of A Jib Crane
The jib cranes are very effective
lifting machines which are used in many industry sectors. But like
any other heavy construction machine, the stability is a big issue
when the jib crane is used. From my own perspective, keeping a stable
jib crane at the construction site is vital for minimizing the
chances for tipping over and other serious accidents. That's why the
manufacturers of the cranes are paying lot of attention during the
construction process in order to ensure higher stability. Usually the
stability issue is eliminated by installing outriggers on the jib
cranes. The engineers also have found a solution for this problem by
taking into consideration the maximum lifting capacity, the
counterweight and the dead weight. The end result was an equivalent
mechanical jib crane model.

Mobile Crane Loads To The Supporting Surface
A mobile crane is a more flexible and more versatile type of crane than the fixed crane and it brings lots of benefits to any job site. One common benefit is that it can be very quickly and easily set up, and dismantle as well, making it extremely practical and efficient for any lifting operation. On wheels or on track, the mobile crane can access any job site and operate in the tightest areas on job sites. There are many mobile crane types, such as rough terrain, all terrain, truck-mounted, crawler, pick & carry, side-lift cranes and many others. However, most mobile crane types are composed of chains, a control panel and a wire rope drum.
To determine the mobile crane support reactions there are reliable information which are not always available. One common information is the rough conservative approximation, a norm in many cases. Today, the mobile crane manufacturers use proper resources to provide such information through a software that can give the mobile crane operators precise and comprehensive answers. To calculate support reactions from a basic mobile crane, manufacturers use various methods. Although the tools by the manufacturers usually make the calculations completely unnecessary, those methods are still useful for some exceptions and for mobile crane operators that ask for more info for the level of comprehension.
The principle of performing calculations is usually not included in the manufacturer's manual of the mobile crane, so it needs to be calculated by using other means. To make a calculation to the supporting surface of a mobile crane, there are some needed information. Those information are:
- Boom: The length, weight and CC location coordinate of each boom (it applies for both latticed and telescopic booms), including the effects of mast, upper spreader and guy wires.
- Jib: The length, weight and CC location coordinates of each jib, including the effects of jib mast and guy wires.
- Superstructure: The CG horizontal distance from the axis of rotation and the weight of the superstructure (including the counterweights).
- Carrier: The weight and CC horizontal distance from the axis of rotation of the carrier.

Slew Crane - A Simple Guide
Slew crane is extremely efficient
heavy-duty machines most commonly used for tough lifting tasks. Ideal
for lifting large loads and reaching higher heights, slew crane can
optimize numerous tasks which require accurate handling of the
material. In general, the slew crane is designed for indoor
applications, however, different tasks demand different types, such
as slew crane with aluminum crane rail, with steel crane rail.
Who Has Health And Safety Duties In Relation To Cranes?
A crane is a lifting
machine used in many industry sectors like: construction, forestry,
mining, transport, cargo etc. What makes this machine so widely used
is its ability to lift and move various heavy weight items and
materials from one location to another. There are many different
types of cranes on the market, from small portable crane machines to
much larger tower cranes. Every particular crane model is used for a
specific type of work that requires lifting operation. But like any
other construction or industrial machine, the cranes bring many risks
and threats to the working site. Therefore, it is extremely important
specific health and safety procedures to be followed when cranes are
used. Usually a specific group or personnel is responsible for
ensuring that everything around the working site is well protected
when a particular crane model is used, and this personnel might be:
designers, manufacturers, construction crane suppliers, importers,
installers, officers, workers, and other personnel at the working
site.
A Person Conducting A
Business. The person who is conducting business has the main
responsibility to ensure that the workers and all other people at the
job site are not exposed to risks and threats when cranes are used
for lifting operations. This duty includes:
- Proper maintenance of the crane that is being used and
- ensuring safe usage, storage and transportation of the crane
If you own or lease a
crane, you have the responsibilities to enure that your workers are
well protected and not exposed to safety and health risks. You and
your personnel have duty to eliminate various risks associated with
the crane that is used on the working site.
Construction Crane Suppliers,
Designers, Manufacturers, Installers and Importers. All these
people have specific responsibilities, such as to carry out special
testing or analysis, and also to provide all the necessary
information related to how the crane needs to be used. The crane
suppliers, manufacturers and other personnel, also have duties to
give information about the cranes to other duty holders so that they
can meet their responsibilities related with the cranes. This
information needs to be transferred from the designer to the
manufacturer, construction crane suppliers and to the end used.
Officers. The
officers, such as the directors of the company that uses the construction crane,
have responsibilities to ensure that the company uses appropriate
resources and follows appropriate safety and health procedures to
eliminate or minimize the risks emerging from using the construction crane at the
working site. In order to do that, the officers have close
relationship and communication with the crane suppliers.
Workers. The
workers at the workplace have responsibility to take care for their
own health and safety, and to pay attention not to put the others
around them in danger when performing various activities. Workers
need to follow certain health and safety polices or procedures when
working with certain crane model. Furthermore, workers who operate a
particular crane must obtain a specific high risk work license.

100 Ton Telescopic Boom Crawler Crane
People involved in a construction
process that deals with lifting operations on a daily basis need
quality cranes and well-trained staff. It is very important to have a
well-trained and qualified staff, because of the many benefits they
can bring. Also, completing a certain job in time is important, if
you want to get a reputation among customers, or maybe expand your
business and increase the revenue. Finding skilled staff may be a
difficult task, but so is finding a quality crane. Although there are
many crane manufacturers, they are not all reliably, durable and
powerful, so you need to choose wisely.
Mantis is a popular manufacturer of
cranes and has gained reputation for its hydraulic telescopic boom
crawler cranes. Mantis offers a wide range of cranes and the latest
one that was recently included is the 100 ton crane Mantis
20010, the largest crawler crane in the product line of Mantis. This
100 ton crane is a reliable, efficient and powerful performer,
able to challenge any lifting operation. The Mantis 100 ton crane
has a 6-cylinder Cummins QSM11 engine, an extremely powerful Tier 3
engine that provides 375 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1400
lb-ft @ 1400 RPM.
This 100 ton crane has a
4-section telescopic boom, 39 meters long when extended. The maximum
tip height on the main boom is about 42 meters. Also, it features two
double acting hydraulic cylinders. The rotation of the upper
structure of the crane for fully 360º
is allowed by its gear motor. As its maximum tip height is 60 meters
and has a jib of 7.5 meters long, it means that the Mantis 100
ton crane is able to
lift about 20,000 kg with no problems. Also, this telescopic-boom
crawler crane features swing drives and a cabin that provides a
full-view and an operator tilt of 20º,
thanks to the rear and winch cameras and the electronic control
module.
If
we add the hydraulic pumps (two high pressure, two or more axial
piston pumps and one axial piston pump for cooling loop) and its
counterweights of 16,000 kg for additional stability, the Mantis 100
ton crane is certainly
one of the best you can find on the market. So, reliable and
powerful, the Mantis 20010 is a 100
ton crane ready to
face the toughest lifting operations.

Function Of Self-loading Concrete Mixer
Construction industry depends on
concrete mixers to produce large amounts of concrete and today, there
are many different types of concrete mixers. One common type of
concrete mixer is the self loading concrete mixer, which is
becoming very popular choice among the concrete producers. It is
one of the newer concrete mixers and very well accepted. The self
loading concrete mixer is used for several applications,
including as loading, mixing, transferring and pouring concrete.
Either stationary or mobile, depending on the required application,
the self loading concrete mixer works on same principle and
has the same function.
The self loading cement mixer
reduces the manual work to incredible extent and provides its
operator with very accurate operation and very quality concrete. A
typical self loading cement mixer is consisted of a long chute
that is used for loading and unloading concrete and is located at the
top of the mixing unit. The cement ingredients about to be mixed are
inserted into the drum through the chute, which is angle adjustable,
depending on the position of the rotating drum of the self loading
cement mixer. The drum is being rotated by the hydraulic gear or
similar motor that powers the main engine of the self loading
cement mixer. With several blades in it, the mixture of cement,
water and aggregate are rolling and turning into the drum. Once the
drum is rotating reversely, the concrete is ready for use and can be
poured out of the drum.
When the mixing process is done, the
self loading concrete mixer should be flushed immediately. If
not cleaned on time, especially the cement mixer bowl, the cement will
harden and you now how hard is removing dry cement. The maintenance
costs are not high as it does not require specific care. Speaking of
costs, the owning and operational costs of the self loading
concrete mixer are very low and cost effective. The self
loading concrete mixer needs only one person for operating, which
saves some extra money from not employing additional worker.
Additionally, it saves lots of money from not transporting concrete,
but producing it, and because it has its own water tank. So, as the
self loading cement mixer works directly on-site, it reduces
the need of additional expensive construction equipment, such as
pumps, loaders, cranes and others.

Tower Cranes - Learn The Basics
Tower cranes are those large
buildings you can see on any large construction site, as they are
used to move large construction materials and machines, such as steel
structures, concrete slabs, various machines and others. There are
many tower cranes in Australia, due to the increasing demand
of building new objects.
The tower crane plays a vital
role in the construction industry, as there is a huge demand for
larger tower cranes in Australia. Especially
during the initial phase of building an object, tower
cranes are very important,
helping the construction workers to complete the dangerous jobs
safely. The tower crane
is an extremely stable device, because its base is set into the
ground. Although there are many types of tower cranes in
Australia, they all consist the
following basic parts.
Base – The base is the main
component of each tower crane, as it is very essential
component which allows contact between the tall steel structure and
the concrete building top. The best comparison would be with a spine
supporting a human body, because it has the same function. However,
the steel structure of a tower crane is fixed with concrete.
Mast Section – The mast
section is the second most important part of a tower crane and
is connected to the base to give the required height to the tower
crane. The mast section has guard and guide rails that guide the
elevator. The operators gets in his cab with an elevator.
Horizontal Jib – The
horizontal jib is also an important part of a tower crane and
is commonly called working arm. The working arm extends horizontally,
and with a trolley, it carries loads. Most tower cranes in
Australia can move the jib for 360 degrees and reach any corner
on construction sites.
Operator's Cab – The cabinet
of the operator is located in a way that no crane operation
would ruin the visibility of the crane. The cab is equipped
with basic controls, foot pedals, features and joysticks, and some
even provide a comfort for the operators.
Slewing Unit – The mobility of
tower cranes is due to the slewing unit, which rotates the jib
and the tower crane as well, for almost 360 degrees. The
rotation of the tower crane around its own axis is called
slewing, a set of combined huge gears and motors that enable the
crane to rotate.
Crane House –
The crane house extends behind the center of the crane
and horizontally along the jib. It houses the motor of the crane
and other electronic components, which are necessary for operation of
the crane. Designed to eliminate water ingress and withstand
winds, the crane house incorporates all safety devices for
safe operation.

Timeline Of Crane Evolution
One particular machine
that is heavily used in the construction industry is the crane.
This machine is generally used for lifting and moving heavy loads and
materials horizontally and vertically. It is equipped with hoists,
ropes, chains and it creates mechanical advantage to lift and move
loads beyond the human capacity. There are many different crane
types available on the market, from small portable cranes to
large tower cranes. Each model has its own unique characteristics,
specifications and it is used for a particular lifting task. Beside
construction, the cranes are used in many different industry
sectors, like manufacturing and transport industry. The cranes
make any lifting and construction job to be completed quickly and
effectively. These machines have been used since ancient times, and
the following text will present you a brief history about the crane
evolution and how the crane was used throughout the years.
The
first lifting machine was invented by the ancient Greeks in the 6th
century B.C. Archeological evidence show that the ancient Greek
temples and the Egyptian pyramids were constructed with the help of
an ancient crane model. The ancient crane models were
consisted of a rope which was passed over a pulley. The single pulley
crane models had no capability to create mechanical advantage,
and human effort was used to lift heavy items and materials. One
major improvement in the crane design emerged in the 4th
century B.C. and that was the compound pulley. With the help of the
compound pulley the cranes were able to create mechanical
advantage, and this pulley was a combination of several pulleys
placed in a block.
The
heavy use of the cranes
came during the ancient Roman Empire. The ancient Romans adopted the
Greek crane
model and created even much better crane
capable to lift even more heavy materials and items. The Roman
Trispastos was one
specific crane
model consisted of one beam of jib, winch, ropes and a block with
three pulleys. It has been calculated that the Trispastos
was
capable to lift items up to 150kg. The Romans developed also more
powerful cranes
which were known as
Pentaspastos
and
Polyspastos. These
ancient cranes
were capable to lift loads up to 3000kg and 6000kg.
During
the Middle Ages, the treadwheel crane
was invented and heavily used for the construction of different kind
of solid structures. The earliest treadwheel crane
was used in France around 1225. Soon after France, treadwheel and
harbor crane
models were used in Utrecht, Antwerp, Brugge, Hamburg and other major
cities in Europe. The typical areas of application for these crane
models were the harbors, mines and construction sites. The treadwheel
crane
played a vital role in the construction of the Gothic cathedrals all
over Europe during the Middle Ages.
The
modern cranes,
similar like the ones used today, were designed and constructed
during the Industrial Revolution. The first hydraulic water powered
crane
was invented by Sir William Armstrong in 1838. His model consisted a
ram which was closed in a cylinder and a fluid inside the cylinder.
One hydraulic crane
designed by Armstrong is still standing in Venice in Italy. This
crane
was heavily used until 1950. The hydraulic crane was the base for
many crane models which emerged in the 20th
and 21th
century, like the tower cranes,
crawler cranes,
railroad crane,
floating crane,
aerial crane,
truck-mounted crane and many other crane
models.

How Is A Tower Crane Built?
Tower cranes are lifting machines used on large construction sites for lifting and moving large loads.
They are stationary and have incredible stability, due to their base
which is fixed into the ground. Tower cranes are usually
consisted of a horizontal beam (jib) and a mast section, which
together look like the letter “T”. The tower cranes of
Australia construction companies are most efficient for setting
steel beams, moving large amounts of concrete, larger equipment,
tools or similar material and others. Despite the construction
industry, tower cranes are very efficient in other industries
where lifting and moving of large loads is needed. As a typical tower
crane is huge and used on almost any large construction job, it
is hard to miss one, as it is one of the few large construction
machinery.
But one thing that is a puzzle for many
is how is a tower crane built. Indeed it is a complicated
process, but there are no philosophies in it. The first thing when
setting a tower crane is setting the mast section into the
ground and plumbing it to 1:500 degree. Once the base is set,
concrete is added to increase the stability of the tower crane.
Then, the tower crane is prepared to be erected when the
concrete has dried. The size of tower cranes in Australia
varies, and according to it, several bolts need to be installed and
torqued with a wrench to about 4000 ft lbs.
Once the base is set, the process of
building a tower crane continues with adding as much mast
sections as the construction project need to reach in height. One
complex piece of tower cranes in Australia is the turntable,
the heaviest piece of tower cranes. It is consisted of
operator's cab, jib, counter-jib, hook, trolley, hoisting rope and
some other not-so-important elements. When this piece is added onto
the tower crane, a tower top can be added on the top of the
crane. The tower top serves as a base for the jib to be attached. A
counter jib, on the other hand, is connected in order to hold counter
weight and is usually connected by large pins at the turntable.
And the final step of building a tower
crane is the easiest one – performing a load test to check the
lifting and power capacities of the tower crane. If the tower
crane passes the load test, then the crane is functional and
ready to perform tough lifting construction operations.

An Overview Of Cement Mixers And Other Equipment
The cement is heavily used
material in the construction industry. It is a material used in the
construction of various structures, like commercial and residential
buildings, roads and highways, bridges, water dams and many other
solid structures. People often think that cement and concrete are
same things. But however a distinction should be made, because
concrete and cement are two different things. Generally, cement is
used in the creation of concrete among several other ingredients.
Portable cement mixers are usually used in the creation of the
concrete. The portable cement mixers come in various forms,
shapes, sizes, powered by electricity or by diesel engines. The
following text presents a short overview about cement, portable
cement mixers and concrete plants.
The cement is generally a
binder material. This material hardens and sets independently, and
allows other materials to bind together. Even the ancient Romans used
the cement as binder. The cement which is used in the construction
industry can be hydraulic or non hydraulic. The hydraulic type
hardens because of the hydration. During the hydration, chemical
reaction occurs independently of the water mixture. The cement
mixture hardens when water is added, or when it is exposed to wet
conditions. The non hydraulic cement type on the other hand, needs to
be in dry condition in order to maintain its strength.
The portable cement
mixer usually is consisted of three parts: a rotating drum, a
motor and a chute. In the portable cement mixer several
materials are mixed, and the end result is concrete. Usually, a
combination of cement, water, gravel and sand is mixed together in
the creation of concrete. The rotating drum of the portable cement
mixer spins all these materials, and a homogenous
mixture is created. Because the final product is concrete, many
people call this machine a concrete mixer. The
portable cement mixers
vary in their sizes, depending on the amount of concrete that needs
to be created. For small construction projects like home renovations,
a small portable cement mixer is the ideal choice. While for much
larger projects like building construction, bigger and more
sophisticated concrete equipment is required. Usually, the
construction managers and engineers decide what type of portable
cement mixers
are needed for the job.
Concrete
plants are described as facilities where concrete is being created by
using special concrete mixing equipment. They can either central mix
plants or ready mix plants. The ready mix concrete plant mixes all
materials except water. A special ready mix concrete truck transports
the mixture and slowly adds water during the transportation. Central
mix concrete plant combines and mixes all ingredients, including
water, at one central location where the concrete is needed. The
central mix concrete plant is more suitable option because it ensures
uniformity and continuous delivery of concrete where and when is
needed.

Different GPS devices are available to the surveyors depending on their needs, from simple to more advanced night vision GPS devices which enable the surveyors to perform measurements during the night. But however the GPS cannot be used in highly dense forest areas or for concrete constructions. For such applications a device known as total station is used to support the GPS.
The
total station actually is a theodolite equipped with a electronic
distance measurement device, or shortly known as EDMD. The
introduction of the total station is another main reason, along with
the introduction of the GPS, for the big changes in the surveying
field. The EDMD has transformed the surveying tool from being optical
mechanical device to digital electronic device. The total station
is also used for leveling. New total stations come equipped with
atmospheric correction and auto focus. These new devices incorporate
quick measuring mode and high data storage capacity for increased
efficiency and productivity. The new total station models provide the
opportunity for longer distance measurement and monitoring. Modern
total stations are mainly used for:
- General purpose angle measurement
- General purpose distance measurement
- Control of surveys
- Contour and detail mapping
- Construction work
The
modern surveying tools
that are heavily used
today by the surveyors are generally a combination of these useful
devices.
There
is a broad range of surveying
tools available today for
completing different surveying tasks. Each surveying tool comes with
unique features, configurations and specifications. The selection of
a certain surveying tool is determined by the nature of the surveying
work, and the accuracy level which is required. Although all these
surveying tools
that are available to the surveyors offer multiple options, a
specific knowledge is required so that accurate data can be gathered
in a timely manner. By knowing exactly how to use the surveying
tools, surveyors can complete their work in a more efficient manner.
Surveying Tools And Accessories: Old And New - Part 1
The surveyors are needed
for every construction project. They perform all the necessary land
measurements which are required by the construction architects and
engineers. In order to perform accurate measurements, the surveyors
use different kinds of surveying tools and surveying
accessories. Their work depends heavily on their surveying
equipment for gathering precise and accurate information easily and
quickly. Many different kinds of surveying tools have been
developed over the years to help the surveyors when measuring
different ground parameters. For every land parameter different and
specific surveying tools are needed.
The following text will
describe the surveying tools, both old and new, that can be found on the market, and will highlight the importance of the main
surveying tools which are used by the surveyors.
Surveying Tools
And Accessories- Old. Many years ago, in ancient times, the main
surveying equipment was consisted of chains, transit, solar and
traditional compass, theodolite and other surveying tools. The
chains were used for measuring the distance between two different
points. The compass was needed for measuring the direction of a
particular ground line. Solar compass was used by the surveyors for
measuring the latitude and the direction of certain point with the
help of the stars and the sun. A smaller metallic tape was used for
measuring short distances.
With time, the surveying
techniques and the surveying tools became more advanced and
improved. More simple and advanced theodolite was developed for
measuring horizontal and vertical angles, and basic level was used
for measuring different heights. Measuring wheels were introduced to
help the surveyors when measuring long distances in a relatively
short time. These surveying tools were available in two main
types: mechanical and electrical.
From the 1900s, the
surveyors started to use more advanced and technologically improved
surveying tools and surveying accessories such as:
automatic levels, planimeters, theodolites and other tools for more
accurate measurements. The surveying planimeter was used for
asymmetrical land areas measurements, whereas the theodolites helped
the surveyors a lot in measuring horizontal and vertical angles. The
new theodolite that was introduced was consisted of one rotating
telescope that was attached on a perpendicular axis. The auto level
is another useful surveying tool that was used by the surveyors
mainly for horizontal level measurements. In the past most of the
surveying tools were mounted on a tripod, which provided
additional support for the surveying tools. As the name
indicates, the tripod was designed with three legs with different
lengths. Many of the previously mentioned surveying tools and
accessories like the theodolites, planimeter, tripod and many others
are still used today by the modern surveyors.

What Do You Need To Know About Roller Compactor?
A roller compactor, or compactor
roller, is a piece of heavy-duty compaction machinery that can be
very commonly seen on a construction site. It is used for compaction
of fine particulate materials or asphalt, creating a flat, smooth
surface and getting rid of the air voids. As the first roller
compactor was powered by a steam engine, in some parts of the world
the roller compactors are still known as steam rollers. There are
many different types of roller compactors, but it is all about these
two general types: single drum roller compactor and double drum roller compactor. The single drum roller compactor features a
large steel drum and a set of rear wheels/tracks for moving the
compactor forward, while the double drum roller compactor
features two large steel rolling drums, which in fact, move the
machine.
The single
drum roller compactor is used for doing easy compaction jobs,
such as to help in grading an uneven surfaces of soil. Due to its
incredible maneuverability on uneven surfaces, it is also useful for
compacting on dams, parking stations and on other types of fields.
Its wheels or tracks help the roller compactor to keep the traction
and easily overcome obstacles. The only disadvantage is that the
single drum roller compactor is a bit heavy and in some cases might
be interrupted from rolling over obstacles. The soil that needs to be
compacted by a single drum roller compactor needs to be graded before
using a complete grader compactor. After this procedure, the roller
compactor can flatten the soil using a static force, which is being
created by the weight and motion of the roller.
The double drum roller compactor,
or also known as twin drum roller compactor,
has only one big difference from the previous type of roller
compactor and it is the additional vibrating drum that provides a
higher compaction force. The twin drum roller has no rubber
wheels or tracks, but two steel drums that move the machine forward.
Whenever a small sized compaction job is needed, the twin drum
roller is the first option. Not known for exceptional traction on
many surfaces, but for asphalt or other similar materials the twin
drum roller provides a great compaction. The twin drum roller
has not so good maneuverability, because of its long turning radius.
Its two steel drums create a flat and smooth surface without leaving
track or tire divots.
The drum on the single drum roller
compactor, or the drums on the double drum roller compactor,
are mounted on an axle, supported by a massive frame. Typically, each
single and double drum roller compactor moves very slowly to
ensure that all materials are evenly compacted and all air or water
voids are eliminated. On this way, the rollers may be needed to make
a few passes over the same surface. The operators should sit in the
cab above their rollers for a better visibility and their sit should
be swivel so they be able to operate with their machines in both
directions without turning entirely.
